Hey surfers over 50 - watcha been up to lately?

This blog currently has over 20 contributing authors, but very few that are active participants. If you are listed as a contributing author to this blog, please try to post up once a month - just a note on any surfing-related things going on in your life.

We'd like to add some more prolific writers to the roster, and get some added imput from those senior surfers who just don't want to quit surfing and being stoked!

You don't have to be over 50 to be an author - just someone who is determined to stay fit, enjoy the active lifestyle, and never stop being stoked no matter how old you are!

If you'd like to join our blog as an active contributor, please email Huck. doghousereilley@yahoo.com Look forward to hearing from ya'!

  3. Hi,
Been a while since I checked out this site, I like the new look.
About me; 55 years young living in Brittany, recently moved up here from the Pays Basque. Best thing I ever did! I have surfed more in five months living by the sea than I did in two years living inland and having to travel to the coast each time. This part of France is a dream and reminds me a lot of how the UK used to be twenty years ago with very friendly locals and a fabulous range of waves, including a nice right point straight out front from my house.
Fitness wise I am staying healthy, 80kgs and enjoying my 6' 9" Wayne Lynch, a 7' 2" minimal and a 9' 0" Walden I bought last year secondhand (my first mal after 37 years surfing!!) The latter has opened up my surfing and would love to get a fish for next summer.
Winter is now approaching and the water is getting colder but I WILL surf all winter, no excuses.
Would love to hear from anyone in my area or if you are planning a French trip drop me a line............Phil.

    1. Hi Phil, I just stumbled on this site, only to see that the comments are back in 2010. Has the site died or are you all still contributing elsewhere?

I live in London(yeah, I know, not the best place to have a burning wish to surf, but Hey!)unfit, late 50s,female and considered insane by all who know me as to why I keep dashing to the coast only to return exhausted.
      Please say hi.

    2. You can't stop with just one! I suggest starting with a boogie board, to get used to the ways of the ocean. Send pics and more info, I'll put your story up on the blog!

  4. Jim:
Just got out of the water--my second session today in Huntington Beach. I'm 56 and today I rode my Channel Islands Flyer which is 6'6." Some older guys buy a Porsche--I bought a shorter board.
